This 2025 9” x 12” original artwork was created with ink and acrylic paint on heavy water color paper.

Here is a Great Blue Heron couple on Saddlebag island, one of their rookeries in the San Juan Archipelago. I’ve spent many years watching and admiring herons. They’re so gangly yet so graceful, and so awkwardly loud! It was such a treat to visit the island many of them call home, see their nests up in the trees and watch them interact for hours at a time from the boat cockpit or rowing ashore for a walk along the island paths. We visited in late summer - too late to watch their February courtships, but by July there were still some “empty-nesters” in the treetops!

As always, at least 10% of sales (more when I can manage it) will be donated to various local nonprofits working to restore our Salish Sea and the Cascadia ecosystem.
