An August sailing adventure to remember! We spent a few days sailing (motoring, actually - not much wind those days) through the island archipelagos where we live. This is when we were going through Haro Strait, looking towards Waldron, Sucia and Patos Islands with the mainland and Mt. Baker (Komo Kulshan) beyond. I did 4 variations on the quick-changing view from the stern of our sailboat as a faint fog, clouds and the sun danced together above the islands as we traversed the human-made "boundary" between "BC Canada" and "WA US." Those that live in the Salish Sea, especially the plants and animals, know there is no boundary - it's all the same ecosystem.

On a sailboat trip among the San Juan (US) and Gulf islands (BC), I brought a small stack of water color paper, paint and brushes to document the play of the sun on the water and islands. This small watercolor study hopefully conveys the magic that is sailing among the islands in high summer.
