Monthly Archives: February 2011
i finally got it together! now you can get your hands on the same yardage i’ve been designing and using for my fabric accessories, and make your own fabric fun! just please send me pics, i wanna see what you make!
i actually read this book a few weeks ago, i’m a little behind…
growing up on a farm, being an art student and now an artist, i’ve always had to be mindful of every penny. it’s second nature. as a result, i live well for someone who makes the amount of money i do. me and the creative friends i have now live a lot differently than, say, someone who has a steady job and a paycheck. we’re always exchanging ideas on how to make our money stretch farther, and to be able to save for those inevitable unexpected expenses.
this book outlines some of the ways i’ve always used for mindful spending such as: tracking and evaluating every expense on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis to understand how, where, when and why you spend; aligning how you make your money with your values; seeing the price of the things you buy in terms of your hourly wage; calculating your true hourly wage by factoring in commute time, prepared food expenses, special clothing expenses, etc.
this is a great book with practical solutions for anyone unhappy with their current financial situation.
the book goes a step further than by guiding readers through the possibility of paying off all debts, creating substantial savings, and then investing for lifetime income without work. lol, this part i don’t see happening for myself anytime soon, but, well, it’s a nice thought!
looking for other cut-your-expenses solutions? ali and rachel are living on cash and hoping to pay off their $70k debt by december 31, 2011. and they’re blogging about it.
so awesome! i tried to retweet these on twitter, but i think i did it wrong and it didn’t show up. sigh. still learning!
another look behind the scenes for my upcoming drawing nature journal!
this is the pile of running sheets – which are the big sheets of paper straight off the press before they’re cut into the individual spreads for the signatures, which are then bound together and attached to the covers.
are you wondering what the heck i am talking about? check out this video from one of my favorite tv shows – how it’s made: commercial book binding!
as it turns out, i have less than a handful of those babies left before they’re gone forever!
oh, oops! you know what i forgot to do before i went to bed last night? pick a winner for the giveaway! [giveaway newbie here!]
random.org says… congratulations michaela haffner!
one small hitch though: michaela didn’t leave an email address with her comment, so i have no way to contact her for her street address. if i don’t hear from her in 24 hours, i’ll run the numbers again and choose a new winner!
oh goodness, giveaway newbie here! i should’ve had the morning dose of caffeine before doing this. i figured out how to find michaela’s email address. congrats again, michaela!
i’d forgotten about this until i downloaded all the photos on the camera this morning… i have new neighbors! or rather, the neighbors have built new runs for their bunnies and chickens on the public side yard of their house so the entire neighborhood can enjoy them.
when a friend came to visit with her two little kids, i knew just where our sunny day stroll should end up! the bunnies were friendly, but the chickens were overwhelmed by all the squeals from two little girls and one little dog. they ran for cover, through the fence into their private backyard space!
tidepools nerd alert! let’s try something new here… i’m giving away one signed preview copy of each of my new sea flowers stationery set and sea flowers postcard set debuting next tuesday. one lucky reader of this blog will be selected and sent these ahead of the release date. the contest will close at 10pm pacific time tomorrow, 2/22. all you have to do is leave a comment and let me know how much you love tidepools and sealife!
easy, right? and now i’ll have a better idea of just how many of you actually read this. ha!
along with all the advance copies of my soon-to-be-released nature drawing journal, my editors kindly sent me an additional small box full of all the bluelines, proofs and running sheets for the entire project. many of these were internal paperwork between the publisher and the printer as the project progressed – this is the first time i’m seeing them!
so fun to see them all, and this will be a valuable resource if i teach a book design class!
psssst… although the book isn’t officially available til march 15, you can pre-order your copy now! the first 50 copies ordered will be personally signed by me, to you or to whomever you wish!
still thinking of grids and systems this morning, though i can’t fully divulge exactly why yet! a design girl’s gotta keep some secrets…
there’s word play waiting to happen in both these artist’s last names – wood & pearse – and the materials and tools of their craft – fabric & needles vs. wood & nails – but i haven’t had my full dose of caffeine yet to fully figure it out and impress you with my clever word play skills! anyone care to comment?
